Tesla has announced a recall of 3,878 Cybertrucks from its 2024 model year after identifying a defect where the accelerator pedal could potentially become stuck, increasing the risk of unintended acceleration and possible crashes.
The issue, as reported in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), involves the accelerator pedal pad becoming dislodged and trapped by the vehicle’s interior trim. The affected Cybertrucks were manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024, according to NHTSA documents.
As of this Monday, Tesla has not reported any accidents, injuries, or fatalities linked to this defect. The company has already implemented a new accelerator pedal component in Cybertrucks currently in production as of this past Wednesday, the NHTSA confirmed.
Tesla, led by CEO Elon Musk, has committed to replacing or repairing the accelerator pedal assembly at no cost to vehicle owners. Customers can reach out to Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 for assistance, referencing recall number SB-24-33-003.
The launch of the Cybertruck has faced its challenges, including significant delays. The first deliveries of the highly anticipated vehicle occurred in November, almost two years later than initially planned, and questions remain about when the company will achieve full-scale production.
During Tesla’s third-quarter earnings call in October, Musk candidly remarked on the production challenges, stating, “we dug our own grave with Cybertruck,” highlighting the difficulties associated with the vehicle’s innovative design and manufacturing processes.
